I was born and raised in Rickmansworth in Hertfordshire in a different century !!

I am now living in Olney in North Buckinghamshire and have done so for around fifty years now

I have always been an outdoor person. When I left school, aged 16 I joined Watford Roads Cycling Club and moved fairly quickly into racing and continued in various forms and levels until I was in my sixties. When not actually racing I always carried a camera with me in some form or another. Especially on my trips to France to ride up various mountains, including Mont Ventoux and Alpe d’Huez.

Since retiring photography has been a growing interest and hobby. I like my exercise so walking with a camera and my dog Max is no hardship to me. Since we acquired him in 2018 my cycling has been replaced with walking. I walk him twice a day regularly and that accounts for 10,000 steps daily with additional walk trips with my camera during the day.

My photography doesn’t seem to have a particular category. I will take picture of anything that catches my eye. Around where I live there no spectacular or even mildly exciting landscape opportunities and the nearest beach is about three hours drive away. The Peak District is my nearest proper landscape location but thats a good three hour drive away as well. In recent years we have taken to going to the north of Scotland on the Moray Firth between inverness and Aberdeen for our holiday. That’s two days of driving to get there but it’s well worth it.

Meanwhile I make do with what I have. Olney is on the River Great Ouse, it is about nine miles from MIlton Keynes. About twenty miles south are the Chiltern Hills which offer a lot of woodland and hills.. I know it fairly well because when I was younger and living in Rickmansworth I used to do a lot of my cycle training there. Coincidentally the Chilterns are about midway between where I was born and where I now live.
