Aldeburgh
A visit to Aldeburgh in Suffolk on the east coast of England in East Anglia. A quaint old style, and quiet fishing town, one among several similar towns in the area, and a perfect places to just wander around (More of which in later posts)
The giant scallop shell on the beach is made of scrap stainless steel and is 4 meters (13feet) high. It is a memorial to Benjamin Britten, the composer of many operas who lived nearby in the village of Snape where he also had his famous theatre. The inscription on the shell says “I hear those voices, they will not be drowned” and it’s from his well known opera ‘Peter Grimes’.
Another landmark is the Moot Hall. it is one of the best preserved Tudor public buildings in Britain, dating back to approximately 1520-1550 It is a striking Grade I listed timber-framed structure that serves as the official meeting place for the Aldeburgh Town Council and houses the local museum
